Alumni Recognized at Legacy Game

During the Legacy Game on Tuesday, November 20th, 2018, the Alumni Association recognized two outstanding Alumni athletes.

The first individual that was recognized was William (Bill) Boatman. Boatman was a three-year varsity basketball starter. He played on the varsity team under Coach Cleon Reynolds from 1955 to 1958. He was a two-sport letter winner and also the 1958 State of Indiana high jump champion in track. Representing Boatman were his four children and lovely wife Lynn Boatman.

The other special recognition was Mr. Greg Allen. Greg was on the Varsity Basketball team as a Freshman, and was a player from 1965 to 1969 under Coach George Theofanis. His teammates called him “lizard” because of his quickness. He was considered the best defensive player in the city at that time. Greg was also a two sport letter winner at Shortridge, and was a member of the 1968 State runner up basketball team.

50 Years ago, history was made by a group of our Shortridge Alumni. Playing Gary Roosevelt for the State of Indiana Basketball finals at the historic Hinkle fieldhouse, that group of young men would come up just a bit short losing 68 to 60.

The Shortridge Alumni Association also recognized the 1968 Basketball team for its outstanding achievement as the only Shortridge basketball team to ever make the state finals. The alumni were also asked to support with a financial contribution.

The alumni association not only recognizes past attendees of Shortridge, but through their alumni contributions, they support the ongoing efforts of the current students and administration. The alumni association also recognizes how the Shortridge alumni greatly impacted the future of Shortridge athletics, so they generously gifted $500 to the Shortridge Athletic Department.
