I think it’s cool that the series takes place on mars because it gives the anime different ideas of futuristic cities and sceneries. I think the art of the anime goes well with the mars theme. The two characters are very different, but that difference is used to show their different styles of singing that go together. I like how the anime has multiple songs in the anime not only for the main characters but also for the other singers that they compete with. I think their road to becoming musicians was well put together because it didn’t feel long or short.
Kono Oto Tomare
Anime Name: Kono Oto Tomare
Studio: Platinum Vision
Genres: Music, Slice of life
Anime Description:The story focuses on the Koto club of the Tokise High School in Kanagawa Prefecture. Takezo Kurata, in his second year, is the only member left in the Koto club, after all the senior members have graduated. While he is trying his best to recruit more members into the club, Chika Kudo submits his application. But, since Kudo is known to be a delinquent, one who destroyed his own grandfather’s koto shop, Takezo is apprehensive about him. Things change when he comes to know the truth. Also joining the club is the Koto prodigy, Satowa Hozuki, who has her own agenda. More members join the club in time, holding their own reasons for joining. However, in the end, they all have the same goal – to play at the Koto Nationals competition.
Characters: Chika is voiced by Yūma Uchida and one of the main male protagonists. He has a very childish personality. He is straight forward with his words but doesn’t clearly know how to express himself or understand others. He likes to help out his friends, but becomes shy when they thank him. Throughout the series he is seen as a delinquent, but he works hard to change everyone’s perspective on him with his hardwork and dedication.
Satowa Hozuki is voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki and is the main female protagonist. She began to rebel against her mother and eventually left the Hozuki family after receiving very strict lessons everyday. Upon being exiled, Satowa initially determines to prove her worth by aiming to win in Koto Competitions. However, she soon realizes that she can’t do it alone and she has fully learned the meaning of “friendship”.
Takezo Kurata Is voiced by Junnya Enoki and is one of the main male protagonists. At the start of the series it is revealed that even though Kurata is a hard worker he would repeatedly fail when it really matters as is the case with the entrance exam he takes for Meiryou High School. It’s shown on many occasions that he does not have much self-confidence and realizes that questions if he is worthy to be the club leader. However, over time he develops a stronger character and is eventually able to stand up and protect what he truly cares for – the koto club and its members.
My Rating: 10/10
Op Rating: 10/10
Ed Rating: 7/10
My Opinion: The series is very well done in every aspect. I love the music, opening, ending, story, characters, and art. I think the series just works with all of the components that it is made of. The music is very different from other anime because they play with a japanese instruments called Kotos, but the anime does a good job of explaining how it’s played. The art in the anime is bright when the mood is happy and fun and dark and gloomy when the mood is sad and depressing creating multiple layers to all of the characters and their stories. The anime has very good rivals that make the competitions more enjoyable to watch because there is never one overall winner.

My Opinion: I think this anime has wonderful classic music and a very well developed story from Kai’s childhood to adulthood. The series is fun to watch and Kai is a fun character that goes with the flow to get what he wants in life without losing the fun of it. I think having a random piano in the forest brought out an unexpected element to the story that they used as importance to the whole series.
